Skincare to upgrade your Zoom aesthetic
by Dr Ros DebenhamThere's no escaping it. Zoom and other video chat platforms are here to stay. With lockdowns, workplace restrictions, and new ways of looking at remote working, we're used to seeing ourselves reflected back onscreen. And so is everyone else.
We're getting to know our faces in a new way; the way that other people see us. Whether we're listening to others, relaxed or animated, video calls capture all of our expressions.
Lots of people you speak to will see you on a full screen. That can be a pretty big view, depending on the device they're using!
Top tips for getting your video call appearance just right
- Lighting. Is. Everything. Having a light shining on you is far better than having a light behind you. In the latter, shadows may draw attention to any wrinkles, loss of volume, dullness in your skin tone and tear troughs.
- If you're particularly passionate about good lighting, invest in a ring light. You can find ones that sit on your phone or behind your computer to give you that professional look.
- Don't sit with your face in the lens. Position yourself far enough away so that your head, shoulders, and down to about waist height is showing.
- Remember to dress for the occasion. Long-gone are the days when you can sit in joggers and remain faceless. Make sure your outfit is appropriate for the call. For example, if you have a meeting at work - dress as you would normally dress. It's amazing how much better and more confident it'll make you feel.
Start with ZO Skin Health
After these things have been sorted, you might start thinking about aesthetics. Lots of people head straight to Botox and fillers. While these treatments can work wonders, we'd always recommend starting with your skincare. Especially considering this is something you can do from the comfort of your own home.
If your skin is uniform in colour, has a smooth texture and subtle pores, you'll reap those compliments.
At The Virtual Aesthetic Clinic, we dispense products by ZO Skin Health.
ZO skincare solutions are medical-grade. This means you'll need to have an online consultation before you make an order. This gives you the opportunity to show us your skin and talk about your concerns and goals. It also means that we can give you exactly the right products and check-in with your progress.
